Heartland Homes Named One of the Nation's Top 100 Home Builders

There is something about a good story that we just can’t resist - especially when it is a story about one of our own from Pittsburgh. Heartland Homes, a local family owned home builder, was recently named a “Top 100” builder in the country by Professional Builder Magazine, and they have a fantastic story to tell.
“A lot of people think that we are somehow related to other home builders in Pittsburgh, and I can understand why they may be confused at first,” says Alan Gillespie - the Founder of Heartland Homes. He once worked for Ryan Homes as a senior manager before leaving to start Heartland.

“I really wanted to start out on my own, and do some things differently. I had narrowed down the name of the new company to three or four choices, and had my family vote on which name they liked best. That’s how Heartland Homes started,” says Alan.
His former employer became a public company focused on the bottom line, and is no longer based in Pittsburgh. But over the next twenty-five years, Heartland became Pittsburgh’s top custom home builder by focusing on the quality of their homes and the customer experience. “We really never focused on growth... it just happened - and we have our customer’s word of mouth to thank for it,” says Alan.

What does Alan think about being named one of the top builders in the country? “I think it’s great recognition for all the people who work so hard to continue to make Heartland Homes special because they deserve it,” he said. “However, it isn’t going to change how we do things around here.” That’s probably a good idea - Heartland seems to have found a winning formula.
